The Opium Eater

Tonight, working in my studio I got to think about Jean Cocteau, specifically his writings about opium (I was listening to the first Velvet Underground record – it was an easy connection to make).

I decided to pull together some snippets of his work.

Cocteau was a French poet, artist, filmmaker, designer, playwright, and voice of the cultural avant-guard during the first part of the 20th century.

He was an essential voice of Parisian Modernism, an influence on Surrealism.

You can find some of his film works at Ubu.
