On Beauty

In talking about her own photographs, a friend of mine once told me that beauty is a foil. It’s a bait and switch of sorts. Her idea was that beauty seduces and gets people engaged with her work, but what really matters is all that lies behind the beauty, the complexity and tension that is really the heart of the matter.

This is indeed a lovely way to conceive of beauty.
