A couple of years, I went to an SPE Conference (Society for Photographic Educators) in Chicago. I was in the middle of a rather serious state of depression. I had lost hope in myself and my photography (see post The Letter).
At the conference, I picked up a copy of a new Robert Adams book Along Some Rivers. It healed me. Adams healed my faith in photography and myself.
About 6-7 years early, I exchanged a couple of letters with Robert Adams. This was right before he moved to Oregon. After reading Along Some Rivers, I decided to contact him again. We exchanged several letters, and exchanged prints. I sent him a picture from Matera, Italy, one of my favorite places in the world.
